Mandatory book。 Tips about negotiation that can have a real impact on daily life, and not exclusively in dealmaking。 After all we are always negotiating and compromising。

I love that Chris indulges readers with insane FBI stories while also talking about people interviewing for jobs and freelancers seeking money they’re owed。Also appreciate that the book feels a bit like a journal with Chris looking back humbly realizing he could’ve done better in some negotiations。 All this while recommending specific ways to negotiate handily。 He seems like an impressive teacher。 He’ll go over a concept and dissect it from a couple perspectives。 Then he’ll give examples and quo I love that Chris indulges readers with insane FBI stories while also talking about people interviewing for jobs and freelancers seeking money they’re owed。Also appreciate that the book feels a bit like a journal with Chris looking back humbly realizing he could’ve done better in some negotiations。 All this while recommending specific ways to negotiate handily。 He seems like an impressive teacher。 He’ll go over a concept and dissect it from a couple perspectives。 Then he’ll give examples and quote specific lines that work best psychologically。I appreciate Chris’s patience and attention to detail。 I also love the pride he takes in his students。 Truly feels like a proud dad instead of someone trying to prove his tactics work。Fun read🖤 。。。more

It's not as often as I'd like that I find myself reading a book where I pretty much immediately know that I'm going to need to reread it。。。and reread it again, and again。 But this is that kind of book for me。I say that because what you have with this book is someone who has internalized so much special insight for a particular skillset that even his best explanations of various tools in the negotiating toolbox had me realizing that I was only catching a small percentage of all he was offering。 P It's not as often as I'd like that I find myself reading a book where I pretty much immediately know that I'm going to need to reread it。。。and reread it again, and again。 But this is that kind of book for me。I say that because what you have with this book is someone who has internalized so much special insight for a particular skillset that even his best explanations of various tools in the negotiating toolbox had me realizing that I was only catching a small percentage of all he was offering。 Plus it's a skillset, and so it takes time to change the patterns of how we have negotiated up to this point to do it more and more skillfully。And that's a profound thing that Voss clarifies early on in the book: how often negotiating happens in our everyday lives。 Certainly, not many of us would find ourselves in the kind of situations that he did as an FBI hostage negotiator。 Nevertheless we may bargain for what movie we'll see with friends, what our work hours will be with our boss, or whose family we'll be visiting for certain holidays with our spouse。 Negotiating (maybe bad negotiating!) is everywhere。The author does a great job of mixing in a variety of both personal and other stories that add a lot to the points he's making。 And the writing style is very approachable and yet still feels like a professional is speaking。 As someone who does a lot of communicating and is constantly looking to improve, this book is now near the top of my list of go-to's as a resource for growing in communicating better with those around me。 。。。more

A smart business book interspersed with stories of exciting hostage negotiations。 More business books could do with a hostage negotiation or two thrown in。

Good book with handfuls of good advice on negotiation, peppered with intriguing examples from the author's professional life as one if the top FBI negotiators。For my taste, this while book is a bit too self centric around the author's success cases, and a bit too focused on life or death and hostage examples。I found myself inspired by a lot of the advice inside, and the practical techniques are crisp and clear。Even so, I would recommend reading or listening to a brief on this book (or a podcast) Good book with handfuls of good advice on negotiation, peppered with intriguing examples from the author's professional life as one if the top FBI negotiators。For my taste, this while book is a bit too self centric around the author's success cases, and a bit too focused on life or death and hostage examples。I found myself inspired by a lot of the advice inside, and the practical techniques are crisp and clear。Even so, I would recommend reading or listening to a brief on this book (or a podcast)。 30 pages would be enough to send its message to the casual reader, with the rest of it being target and useful for professional negotiators。 。。。more

Definitely going to have to read this again to solidify some of the concepts and thought processes。 But I’m excited to try them out in real life and work on getting over the awkwardness of it as the author states it will be weird at first

I don’t give out 5 stars very easily, but this one deserves it my humble opinion。 I could be applicable to resolving conflicts in your personal life, but it is much more useful in the business world。 The type of work I do requires a lot of me negotiating as a freelancer, which is something I greatly dread。 But the approach here doesn’t make the situation so terrifying。

I enjoyed the book a lot。 Plenty of sensible advice with a few actionable techniques。 It won’t make you an FBI negotiator but it will provide the basics to be patient and listens to the other side。 A good read!

10/10 must read for anyone trying to learn how to go into a negotiation situation。 The book’s principles are easily applied in real-life situations。 I read the book before successfully negotiating a higher scholarship from my business school before starting my MBA。

Great ideas and boosted my confidence for difficult conversations。 Organizing the ideas for implementation is not so easy though。 Would love complete transcripts of some examples to really make it come alive!

Top of the must-read book。 I've watched Chris Voss's masterclass but the book leaves you with a greater understanding。 The examples are a mix of FBI, business, or personal negotiations; the strategies can be applied in multiple circumstances - as everything it takes practice and some re-reading to freshen up some concepts every once in a while。 It's an excellent and straightforward book。 Top of the must-read book。 I've watched Chris Voss's masterclass but the book leaves you with a greater understanding。 The examples are a mix of FBI, business, or personal negotiations; the strategies can be applied in multiple circumstances - as everything it takes practice and some re-reading to freshen up some concepts every once in a while。 It's an excellent and straightforward book。 。。。more

Some really interesting lessons about negotiating, and great anecdotes as well from Voss from his time as a negotiation for the FBI。 I find it hard with these books to absorb everything, but I guess through time and practice if I can already implement a few of these lessons, I’ll be a much better negotiator🫡

A lot of practical uses in this book with interesting stories as examples。 Would be best used as a handbook to refer back to。 I’ve started using the techniques in the book in everyday “negotiations” and it is not as easy as it sounds… so I will be re-reading this again sporadically。
